Property from the estate of Diane Smith McIver, a prominent businesswoman and former president of Corey Airport Services in Atlanta who recently passed away, will be auctioned as part of Ahlers & Ogletree’s New Year’s Signature Estates Auction on January 14-16, 2017.

About 200 of the 1,491 lots in the sale will be from the McIver estate. These will feature 25 purses and bags, by names such as Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Versace and Chloe (mostly Chanel); and over 100 pieces of high-end estate jewelry, to include diamonds, rubies, aquamarine, opal, peridot and sapphire and Rolex and Chanel watches.

Also sold will be 44 fur coats and designer outfits by Thierry Mugler, Birger Christensen, Etro, Carven, Roberto Cavalli, Michael Kors, Saks Fifth Avenue and others. The probate attorney who wrote Ms. McIver’s will recommended that her personal items be sold and Ahlers & Ogletree was selected to handle the responsibility.

No doubt a front runner for top lot of the McIver estate is a pair of 4-carat total weight diamond stud earrings set in 14kt white gold, with each earring boasting a round cut brilliant diamond weighing two carats. The set is estimated to bring $20,000-$40,000. Also, an 18kt white gold set of dangle earrings, set with diamonds by Maison Birks (Canadian, founded in 1879), should gavel for $2,500-$3,500.

A ladies’ Rolex Datejust President wristwatch in 18kt yellow gold, style #68278, having a black diamond dial set with 100 diamonds, on a gold bracelet inset with diamonds, is expected to fetch $8,000-$12,000; while a Chanel (French, founded 1909) ladies’ model J12 watch with automatic movement, ceramic case and a bezel and bracelet set with diamonds, should hit $7,000-$9,000.

Among Ms. McIver’s many furs, a Birger Christensen (Danish, founded 1869) full-length lynx fur coat made for Saks Fifth Avenue, having upturned cuffs and wide lapels, about 50 inches in length, is estimated to garner $2,000-$4,000; and a pieced and dyed fox fur 3/4-length coat with shear silk interior, made by Roberto Cavalli (Italian, founded 1970), should make $1,500-$3,000.

A bright orange dyed chinchilla fur coat having rolled cuffs, faux bear claw toggle button, two slip front pockets and a navy lining, with a label for Saks Fifth Avenue, has an estimate of $800-$1,200. Returning to jewelry, a sterling silver pendant necklace by David Yurman (Am., founded 1980), having a double wheat chain supporting a 0.5-carat diamond, should reach $1,500-$3,000.

A Maison Birks ladies’ 18kt white gold and diamond five-strand bracelet with 300 round brilliant cut diamonds weighing 6.00 carats total, is expected to rise to $7,000-$9,000; and a ladies’ 18kt white gold, ruby and diamond link bracelet with 16 oval faceted prong set rubies (boasting a total weight of 11.5 carats) and 32 modern round prong set diamonds, should finish at $3,000-$5,000.

Moving on to purses, a Louis Vuitton (French, founded 1854) Speedy 30 purse from the Takashi Murakami collection in white canvas, with multi-colored allover “LV” monograms and gold-tone hardware, should rise to $700-$900; and a Chanel mini classic square flap bag in quilted beige lambskin with silver-tone hardware and “CC” logo turn-lock front closure should hit $600-$800.

The auction will be held in Ahlers & Ogletree’s gallery, located at 715 Miami Circle (Suite 210) in Atlanta, GA. Featured will be many examples of Americana, estate jewelry and watches and more, mostly pulled from prominent estates and collections. The sale’s expected top lot is an oil on canvas painting by the renowned Hudson River School artist Worthington Whittredge (Am., 1820-1910), titled Campers in the Blue Ridge Mountains, artist-signed lower right. The painting depicts a stony stream surrounded by dense forest, with a group of figures in the background shown building a small fire in a bright stream-side clearing.

Previews will be held Monday through Thursday, January 9-12, from 10 AM to 6 PM; and on Friday, January 13, from 10 AM to 2 PM. A preview party will be held on Thursday, January 12, that will run from 6 PM until 9 PM.
