Hake’s Americana & Collectibles has officially opened Auction #221 with another stellar crop of memorabilia. From political items to Disneyana and concert posters, there is something for all types of collectors.

This auction features an impressive selection of comics and comic art, including All Star Comics #8 CBCS 2.5 with the first appearance and origin of Wonder Woman, Princess Diana. She makes her debut in the “Introducing Wonder Woman” back-up story, which also includes the first appearance of Steve Trevor. All Star Comics #8 also features Starman and Dr. Mid-Nite joining the Justice Society of America in the “Two New Members Earn Their Spurs” story.

This comic is one of the most important issues in all of DC Comics, introducing the most significant female superheroine of the company. It is currently tied for the #15 spot on the Overstreet list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Though the main story follows the JSA, it is better known for including the first appearance of Wonder Woman, which would continue in Sensation Comics #1 (Wonder Woman’s first cover appearance).

This issue has a great cover, depicting the Justice Society of America looking into a crystal ball with new members Dr. Mid-Nite and Starman. It includes stories by Gardner Fox, Everett E. Hibbard and William Moulton Marston (Wonder Woman’s co-creator), with cover and art by Hibbard with additional art by Sheldon Moldoff and Harry G. Peter (Wonder Woman co-creator).

The staples have been removed from this copy and the cover and pages are loose, hence the lower grade. However, it is a very nice example for display with off-white to white pages, bright colors and visual appeal that far exceeds the grade.

All Star #8 is part of the wave of items that closes on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 12 PM ET. Visit hakes.com to view all of the Americana and pop culture collectibles in this second auction during Hake’s 50th anniversary year.
