Heritage Auctions will be featuring a huge number of books in their Sunday Comics, Animation and Art Weekly Online Auction, which closes on July 21, 2019 at their website – 1,138 books in total, for a wealth of options for even the most discerning collector.

Two highlights of particular note in this auction include Action Comics #2 and X-Men #59.

X-Men #59 CGC 9.8 is one of just ten copies in the July 2019 CGC census carrying the grade of 9.8; there are no copies with a higher grade. The issue, with art and cover by Neal Adams, includes appearances by the Sentinels, a group of mutant-hunting robots who often locked horns with the X-Men. Also appearing are a trio of supervillains: Quicksilver, a mutant blessed with exceptional speed, and his twin sister, Scarlet Witch, as well as Toad, who originated as a weak mutant with a hunchback who enjoyed the benefits of superhuman leaping ability.

In Action Comics #2 CGC Apparent 7.0 Superman investigates after lobbyist Alex Greer informs him that Greer’s boss, munitions magnate Emil Norvell, is trying to start a war. Superman forces Norvell to enlist in the local army; Norvell’s plan to enlist and escape is disrupted when Superman also joins. After getting sent to the front lines, Superman returns to camp, only to find it under attack from enemy aircraft. He jumps on to the plan, forcing it to crash, after which Norvell promises never to manufacture munitions again as an inducement to convince Superman to return to America. When the leaders of the two armies fail to see why they are fighting, they agree, instead, to make peace. The issue is ranked No. 17 on Overstreet’s “Top 100 Golden Age Comics” list.

Heritage Auctions’ Sunday Comics, Animation & Art Weekly Online Auction #121929 features 1,138 lots of comic books, original comic book art and memorabilia. Bidding opens at 6 PM CT on HA.com.
