Last week, ComicConnect’s 40th Event Auction wrapped, including Batman #1 CGC 8.0 at $498,000, and a high grade, new to market copy of Phantom Lady #17 CGC 9.4 hammered at a staggering $121,000. “We’ve done it again!” said Vincent Zurzolo, COO of ComicConnect.

“We are always thrilled when we bring unearthed treasures to our customers, and we had an idea that Phantom Lady #17 would be a hot ticket item, but the final price blew our minds,” Zurzolo added. “Meanwhile the marketplace for the tried and true keys continues its upward trend, with all the new movie and TV series announcements, it seems like the sky’s the limit!”

Golden Age highlights include Action Comics #1 CGC 8.5 R $314,002, #10 CGC 1.8 $37,388, and #15 CGC 6.5 $12,144, All Star Comics #3 CGC 6.5 $37,097, Batman #1 CGC 8.0 $498,000, Captain America Comics #74 CGC 7.5 $27,000, Captain Marvel Jr. #1 CGC 9.6 $40,499 and #29 CGC 9.9 (double cover) $30,001, Detective Comics #38 CGC 3.0 $31,001, Mystic Comics #5 CGC 9.2 $16,200, Phantom Lady #17 CGC 9.4 $121,000, Superman #1 CGC 1.0 $89,888, and #13 CGC 9.0 $17,458, Whiz Comics #1 CGC 1.8 $49,500, and Wonder Comics #1 CGC 6.0 $56,015.

Representing the Silver and Bronze Age were Action Comics #242 CGC 8.0 $25,944, Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 7.5 $120,000, Avengers #1 CGC 9.0 $36,022, Fantastic Four #5 CGC 9.0 $28,500 and CGC 8.0 $15,000, and #52 CGC 9.6 $24,500, and X-Men #1 CGC 9.2 $128,000 and #94 CGC 9.8 $14,600.

Original comic art sales were topped by Ghost Rider #8 cover by Gil Kane $9,600, two Johnny Comet Dailies by Frank Frazetta went for $7,266 and $4,988, the cover to Marvel Premiere #17 by Gil Kane sold for $24,833, Tales of Suspense #39 cover recreation by Jack Kirby notched $23,839, and Tarzan and the Beast Master double-page splash by Russ Manning earned $3,100.
