The 23rd Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention will be held on April 5-7, 2024, at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, located at 70 Yorktown Center in Lombard, Illinois.

The large dealer room will welcome around 100 dealers from the US, Canada, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. There will be 180 tables with pulps, vintage paperbacks, science fiction, fantasy and mystery hardcovers, Golden and Silver Age comics, original art, movie memorabilia, and more.

The art show will feature a display of European science fiction and fantasy art from Collection Rohrwild. Art from this collection has been displayed at galleries and museums in Europe, but never before in the U.S. The featured European artists are Johnny Bruck, Alfred Kelsner, Swen Papenbrock, Karl Stephan, Rudolf Sieber-Lonati, and Vicente Ballestar. Other pulp and paperback art will be on display as well. 

The film programming, curated by Ed Hulse, will run Friday and Saturday, showing movies and serials based on pulp stories. The evening programming will include presentations on the weird menace pulps and a tribute to the late comic book historian, Roger Hill, well known for his work on EC comics. Sunday morning will see New Pulp Sunday, programming devoted to the vibrant and colorful world of New Pulp organized by Ron Fortier of Airship 27 Productions. All attendees will get a copy of the convention book, put out by Tom Roberts of Black Dog Books. 

As usual, they will host auctions Friday and Saturday nights, featuring the estate of collector Robert Weinberg and material from several other consignors. Auction highlights include:

  • numerous issues of Weird Tales, including the first Conan story and the famous batwoman cover
  • a rare, signed postcard from H.P. Lovecraft to Robert E. Howard
  • a rare, signed letter from Robert E. Howard to the publishers of Thrills of the Jungle
  • the first issue of Amazing Stories
  • Amazing Stories with the first appearance of Buck Rogers in the pulps
  • signed items by H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Hannes Bok, Ray Bradbury, August Derleth, and many others 
  • many rare pulps and books, including weird menace titles such as Thrilling Mystery, Terror Tales, and Horror Stories
  • a complete set of the rare Tales of Magic and Mystery, including Lovecraft’s only appearance in that magazine
  • a complete set of the rare amateur press magazine, The All-Around Magazine, published by Tevis Clyde Smith, a friend of Robert E. Howard’s, containing some of Howard’s first fiction
