While attending Great Philadelphia Comic Con, Scoop stopped by artist Ken Lashley’s booth. While working on commissions, he talked about the con, what people are requesting for sketches, and working on X-Men.

Scoop: Are you having fun this weekend?
Ken Lashley (KL): It’s been a lot of fun. The people at Philly are crazy fun. I went to a place called Wawa [local convenience store] and it was like the ultimate, crazy place to get a sandwich, it was awesome. I always like going to new cities, that’s a lot of fun. Yeah, it’s been great. Love the show, and there’s going to be a lot of cool drawings.

Scoop: What are people asking for most, as far as sketches and commissions?
KL:
It’s all over the place. Sometimes you go to the show and it’s a lot of the same thing, but there’s been all kinds of different things. I’m drawing X-Men now, so everything’s pretty much X-Men related. It’s been all over the board. Gambit, Rogue, Iceman, you name it. It’s been fun.

Scoop: What are you working on right now?
KL:
I just finished doing X-Men Prime for Marvel and now I’m working on finishing X-Men Gold.

Scoop: I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I’ve heard good things about X-Men Gold. Can you give us any teasers about what’s coming up?
KL:
No. [Laughs] I’m just joking. It’s going to be fun. I’m a classic X-Men fan, I love X-Men. My first love for any comic book was any X-Men in the John Byrne run from #108 to #143 – those are my favorite issues of all time. Now I’m getting the chance to add my stamp to it. It’s been a lot of fun. There are classic characters – Colossus, Kitty Pryde. It’s a lot of fun.

Scoop: Are there any characters in particular that you prefer to draw or that you get most excited about?
KL:
Absolutely, 100% Colossus. I love drawing Colossus. Every cover you see with the X-Men, Colossus will be more front and center. He’s one of my favorite characters. I love drawing that character.

Scoop: What other conventions do you have coming up?
KL:
I’m going to C2E2, then I’m going to New York. Then – I’m from Canada, so I’m going to Montreal and a lot of places in Canada. I think 16 shows this year, which is a pretty full slate.
