The original vocalist for the Pokémon anime’s English theme song returned to the studio to rerecord the popular tune, which has seen a resurgence on streaming services such as Spotify in the wake of Pokémon Go’s worldwide release.

CNN Money recently released a video of Jason Paige recalling the Pokemon process, including the various taglines he recorded and what it was like to hear his voice when the franchise took over in the late 1990s.

“I walked out of the session thinking this was just an ordinary session, I’ll get my demo fee and I hope it goes,” Paige said. “I didn’t really think about it until it started to blow up, and we saw product coming out of the woodwork. I’d walk by a store and there’d be Pikachus, and walk by another and hear ‘Gotta catch ‘em all!’”
