When Rocko’s Modern Life ended in 1996, it saw Rocko, Heffer, and Filbert take off into space - where they’ve apparently stayed for the last two decades. The Rocko’s Modern Life: Return to Earth panel at Comic-Con International had the cast and crew of the show discussing the legacy of the Nickelodeon cartoon and what fans can look forward to in the upcoming movie.

The panel consisted of Rocko creator Joe Murray and voice actors Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko), Tom Kenny (Heffer), Mr. Lawrence (Filbert), and Charlie Adler (Mr. and Mrs. Bighead), plus co-director Cosmo Segurson. There was much reminiscing about the time spent working on the original series, though there was also plenty of talk about the new film, called Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. Murray noted that the film at first “didn’t look right” to him, but he was reminded that it was the first time that Rocko has been in high-definition. Also noted was that the new movie is still going to feature hand-painted backgrounds and hand-drawn animation, which has helped to stay true to the original look and feel of the series.

The very first look at the film was shown at the panel, which highlighted the familiar animation style as well as the classic theme song by the B-52s. Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will arrive on Nickelodeon in 2018.
