Warner Bros. recently announced plans to release Justice League: The New Frontier as a Commemorative Edition. This second-ever DC Universe Original Movie is an animated adaptation the late Darwin Cooke’s seminal DC Comics classic. While full detail on the special edition’s features have yet to be revealed, CBR has shared some of the first details along with a look at the trailer.

This Commemorative Edition is produced by Michael Goguen and Bruce Timm, from a script by Stan Berkowitz. Directed by David Bullock, this reissue will include a mini-documentary on Cooke’s career, as well as different artwork from Cooke as the box art.

Cooke burst onto the DC Comics scene with Talent Showcase #19 in 1985, beginning a decades-long association with DC. After shifting his focus toward animation, Cooke worked as a storyboard artist on Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated Series, and The New Batman Adventures.

He later returned to comics with Batman: Ego, Catwoman, and the award-winning DC: The New Frontier series. Across his extensive career, Cooke has won multiple Eisners, Harveys, and a Schuster. Later in his career, Cooke launched DC Comics’ revival of Will Eisner’s legendary The Spirit. In 2016, following a long battle with cancer, Cooke passed away.

Justice League: The New Frontier stars the voices of Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) as Superman, Jeremy Sisto (Law & Order) as Batman, Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Wonder Woman, Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) as Barry Allen/The Flash, David Boreanaz (Bones) as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Brooke Shields (Suddenly Susan) as Carol Ferris, Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) as Lois Lane, Phil Morris (Seinfeld) as King Faraday, and the late Miguel Ferrer (NCIS: Los Angeles) as Martian Manhunter.

The reissue will eventually be available via digital download, Blu-ray combo pack, and DVD. An official release date has not yet been announced.
