The Silver Age was a significant time in the history of comics as many iconic characters were introduced or evolved from their Golden Age incarnations. In his new book, Rise of the Superheroes – Greatest Silver Age Comic Books and Characters, author David W. Tosh will dive into the era.

The book covers DC, Marvel, and other publishers during 1956-1970 as some superheroes were developed and others were introduced and shaped. The book chronicles how DC Comics changed and revamped characters like the Flash and Green Lantern, Marvel’s innovation with characters like Thor and the Fantastic Four, pop art years with Batman’s changed look and TV series, and independent characters like THUNDER Agents.

The 176-page book from Krause Publications will be available in May at major booksellers and online. Featuring a hardcover and over 300 color photos, it retails for $24.99.

Tosh has been a fan of comic strips, animation, and comic books for most of his life. Since 2003 he has worked for Heritage Auctions as a cataloger, specializing in comics, original art, and vintage comic posters.
