Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds is trading in his raunchy humor and skintight suit to portray one of the most popular Pokémon characters of all time. In the first live-action Pokémon film, Reynolds lends his voice to the titular role in Detective Pikachu.

Ahead of the May 2019 premiere, Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for the investigative family film. Detective Pikachu follows Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Detective Tim Goodman, a young man looking for his missing cop father. He is joined by his partner, Detective Pikachu, and is the only person capable of hearing him speak. Together the unlikely duo investigate the streets of Ryme City, a metropolis where humans and Pokémon coexist.

If seeing painstakingly realistic Pokémon walking alongside humans isn’t enough to entice viewers, perhaps a deerstalker-capped Pikachu will. The teaser also showcases classic Pokémon like Charizard, Mr. Mime, Jigglypuff, and Psyduck. Along with encountering a diverse cast of Pokémon characters, Goodman and Pikachu uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful coexistence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Directed by Rob Letterman and written by Nicole Perlman, the film also stars Paul Kitson, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Karan Soni, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora, and Omar Chaparro.

Detective Pikachu hits theaters on May 10, 2019.
