As revealed via Deadline, Warner Animation Group is currently developing an animated Funko movie after Warner Bros. optioned the rights to the collectible figures.

“We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to making an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them,” said Funko CEO Brian Mariotti.

Warner Bros and Funko have partnered on licensed collectibles from popular franchises for close to two decades, but this will be the first time they embark into the movie-making business together.

Executive Vice President of Warner Animation Group Allison Abbate will oversee the partnership on behalf of the studio. Oscar-nominee Teddy Newton (Day & Night) is developing the story with director Mark Dindal (The Emperor’s New Groove) also attached to the project.
