Squirrel Girl has gotten into the habit of running into various other animal-themed super-people, and after finally shutting down Mole Man for good, it’s Doctor Octopus’ time to shine. And by “shine,” we mean “get his butt kicked by Doreen.” Of course, it’s quite bizarre that Doc Ock would be around at all – given that he’s, well, dead. Something much more sinister ends up being amiss for Squirrel Girl… something that involves weird counting games against Count Nefaria, the shape-shifting Venom Symbiote, and the capital-N Nightmare.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl continues to be one of the funniest books in Marvel’s lineup thanks to the always-fresh writing of Ryan North. This issue features guest artist Jacob Chabot standing in for Erica Henderson; his style is definitely his own while still not being too much of a departure from Henderson’s usual Squirrel Girl fare. Issue 11 here serves as an excellent stand-alone issue as well as an intro to the larger Squirrel Girl series, making it a good starting point if you’re not already reading.
