Wynonna, Doc Holliday, and Valdez travel to Portland, Oregon on the trail of a paranormal killer who is currently maneuvering through the streets of a crowded book sale. While it may seem like a standard U.S. Marshal’s Black Badge Division bust, things get much more complicated when the killer causes panic and Doc recognizes him from a long, long time ago.

This was a very good start to a Doc Holliday special miniseries. So far he’s not leading the story as a solo character, but it’s clearly developing in a direction where he will lead the team to stop the villain, and work with people, from his past.

Amid the mounting suspense as they chase the killer, bits of humor are sprinkled throughout, providing levity to the otherwise intense situation. This issue was written by creator Beau Smith and Tim Rozon, the actor who plays Doc on the Wynonna Earp TV show. The pair manage to create a good comic book story with the show’s style and you can practically hear Rozon’s Doc complaining about modern technology.

The art was done by Chris Evenhuis with colors by Jay Fotos. The likenesses are very good, the artistic angles are interesting, and the colors are subdued without becoming bland. It’s another good installment from the Wynonna Earp team.
