A few issues back, everything changed for the Joyriders. Kolstack betrayed them and Uma sacrificed herself to save them all. In issue 9, we picked up a year later with Catrin on a quest to pull Uma out of the abyss, in the hopes that she might still be alive. But, during that adventure we had no word on Dewydd.

Issue 10 finds Dewydd in the middle of his own solo story. The sweet, somewhat timid, love struck kid is now a confident young man. He spent the year learning to be a wander. Under the tutelage of Maerie, he is learning skills from the “strangest fighting force the galaxy has ever known.”

He undergoes a mission, which is mysterious at the beginning, but quickly makes sense. But while he’s trying to accomplish his goals, the Regulatrix are hunting down the humans and want to take him out.

Joyride is one of my favorite titles right now. It’s been fun and light hearted but smoothly transitions into complicated and exciting. Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, this issue was cool because Dewydd took center stage and we got to see how much he changed while Uma was gone. He’s become a hero in his own right and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Once again the art by Marcus To and colors by Irma Kniivila were clean and emotive with plenty of imaginative space sci-fi characters and landscapes.
