After acting as a diversion to draw fire away from the other members of the Guardians, Peter Quill crash-landed in an area known as The Softlands. Though it seems like a quaint little off-the-grid settlement, its people are harassed by a man called The Greylight, who terrorizes and robs the people who live there. Quill takes on the role of the town’s deputy to try and solve the problems that The Greylight is causing.

Star-Lord Annual is a wonderful little Wild West story, a bit of a departure setting-wise from Quill’s various space adventures but very much in style with his personality. While I’d say the twist near the end of the story is a little easy to see coming, the payoff is pretty good regardless. Fans of Chip Zdarsky’s recent Star-Lord run will want to pick this one up, since he also penned this issue. But even people who didn’t follow that series will probably get a kick out of this book.
