The round-robin tournament continues at Kings Row, and Nicholas is up for his first match of the weekend. Unfortunately, his late night coaching seems to have backfired, leading him to completely overthink his situation instead of just trusting his gut. By the end of the first day, the fencing club members are split between those with wins, and those without, leading some to have to rethink their strategy if they want to make the team.

This is the first issue of Fence that doesn’t feel like it’s simply echoing a popular sports manga like Haikyuu!! or Yowamushi Pedal – it finally feels like its own thing. That’s good, and maybe even a little overdue. The drama is definitely heating up, and if Fence can continue away from simply reading like “Haikyuu!! but fencing” it should prove to be an absolute must-read for the lineup at BOOM!.
