Despite its camp and silliness, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers can get pretty complicated, even intense, which is on full display in the current event, “Shattered Grid.”

As the Power Rangers are regrouping and processing what’s happening, Lord Drakkon is pushing forward like a chess player planning several moves ahead. Drakkon has returned home and in his absence, his army has refortified and rebuilt. In our time and universe, the Rangers grieve Tommy’s death and their failed attempts to bring him back.

During that mourning period, Jen Scotts of Time Force arrives to fill them in on the direness of their situation. She explains that her team had found a nexus level fracture across dimensions and she was able to travel back to the furthest point where things were beginning to break – their time. As Jen and the Power Rangers begin working on strategies to battle the Grid’s fracture and anomalies it has caused, Drakkon has attacked the Power Rangers Samurai team.

“Shattered Grid” is an ambitious story and so far it’s living up to the hype. Several teams are connecting and though it’s a fun prospect, it’ll likely be needed to stop Drakkon and whatever he is planning. Kyle Higgins is writing a story that embraces the fantasy meets futuristic science at the core of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers but it definitely isn’t a silly monster of the week adventure. So far the buildup is going very well and it looks like a serious battle is ahead.
