The new tale of Mulder and Scully starts out at Happy Pines Trailer Park in Muddy River, Texas. After a man reports that a giant owl flew off with a woman who lived next door, the FBI Agents head south to check it out. The local sheriff assumes the siting was brought on by too much beer, but he does tell Scully and Mulder about the owl witch legend of East Texas. There next investigative step is a trip to the Oddity Shack roadside attraction where they meet an interesting man named Sacky. Impressively, it gets even weirder from there.

This issue by Joe and Keith Lansdale is a nice blend of comedy and horror. It has the feel for one of those X-Files episodes that embraces the comically absurd, but during a chase through the woods, things get a little suspenseful. Artist Silvia Califano and colorist Valentina Pinto did a very good job at visually telling the story for assorted dark and dangerous panels mixed with some amused and perplexed expressions for Mulder and Scully.

X-Files Case Files Hoot Goes There #1 was fun enough, but what happened at the very end has me anticipating the next issue.
