The Sharg are here, and there’s not much that the cadets or their robos can do to stave them off. With ship after ship breaking into the Earth’s atmosphere, it’s clear that something drastic has to be done in order to protect the planet. The manmade Suprarobo might be enough to do it, but in order for the massive machine to power up, it needs the energy from other robos – but their pilots’ feelings on whether or not to make that sacrifice might be the difference between winning and losing this war.

This is the penultimate issue for this series, and it’s appropriately building in tension to the finale. Mech Cadet Yu has been a really fun read over its run, and it very much went from “love letter to classic mecha anime and manga” to something very fresh and original-feeling. I’ll be sad to see this one go when it wraps up next month, but I can’t wait to see how it ends.
