They say the best way to hide something is by placing it in plain sight. This is exactly the tactic being used by the Special Operations Unit working for London’s Metropolitan Police. An unsuspecting passerby would never suspect that the building nestled between the houses in Russell Square is home to all things magic. Or that the basement holds a library chock full of casefiles documenting the magical division’s history.

Known as The Folly, this magical division is run by Thomas Nightingale, the ranking officer and one of the most powerful magicians in Europe. His work for the Metropolitan Police dates back as far as the British Colonial Empire. Just don’t ask him about it. Ever since he started working at The Folly, wizarding-trainee Detective Constable Peter Grant, has long prodded Nightingale for stories from his career. All to no avail. Until now. Grants is about to uncover some of his mentor’s elusive past, including his occult service in World War II!

Writer Andrew Cartmel joins Ben Aaronovitch as he adds a mysterious new branch to his award-winning urban fantasy series. This surprising look into the life of Nightingale is made complete with the artistic stylings of Brian Williamson and Stefani Renne.
