Shi creator Billy Tucci is no stranger to the zombie genre – he co-created and wrote Zombie-Sama several years back and is set to revive the property in the near future – so it’s fun to see him take a humorous and even bombastic different take on it. In Appalachian Apocalypse, from new publisher Cave Pictures Publishing, he teams with artist Ethan Nicolle to unleash this new version of a zombie-driven potential end of days. The result is a very enjoyable read, something akin to a stylized, slightly more cartoony Evil Dead or Army of Darkness. The humor is very apparent, but the actions do have deadly serious consequences – a very nice blend. This first of six issues is the debut offering from Cave, and at first blush the quality of their product is very good.
