Comico; $2.00

Now that Free Comic Book Day 2024 has brought us Dynamite’s offering of their new Jonny Quest title, it seems like an excellent time to revisit one of several great moments from Comico’s tenure with the characters in the 1980s.

One such high point came in the form of Jezebel Jade, a three-issue mini-series written by William Messner-Loebs and illustrated, colored, and lettered by Adam Kubert. It centers on Race Bannon in the years before he became bodyguard to Dr. Benton Quest, Jonny, and Hadji (and Bandit, for that matter). Jonny and Hadji discover a manuscript for a novel among Race’s papers, and it seems the novel is a thinly disguised autobiographical adventure.

And seriously, this issue (and the whole mini-series) is so good, one wonders why the folks who have published Jonny Quest since the ’80s haven’t collected it.

If you like adventure comics, Jonny Quest, or just good comics, add it to your want list and get hunting!
