When kids are sick their parents will look for any way to lift their spirits and help them be courageous when faced with scary situations. That’s what Max Levy’s dad, Dan, did for his son.

Max has hemophilia, a condition that prevents his blood from clotting. He had to have a port put into his chest for his medicine. To quell his fears, Dan told Max that he was going to get a metal disc in his chest just like Iron Man. Since Max is a fan of comic books, particularly Iron Man, he was elated at the prospect of being like his hero.

But the story doesn’t end there. Once Marvel got wind of Max’s story they added him into one of their Iron Man titles. Now Iron Max has recovered from his surgery and is a superhero for his family and comic book fans. Check out the videos at nbcnews.com and on the NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt on Facebook.
