Earlier this week, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, Hake’s Americana & Collectibles opened Auction #222. This will be their last one during the year of the company’s 50th anniversary and it’s already promising to be memorable.

Hake’s has tallied bid totals for individual items and the entirety of the auction and discovered that Tuesday was their best first day in company history. Just that day, Hake’s accepted a total of $385,000 in bids for Auction #222, more than doubling the previous record of $182,000. Tuesday also set records for most bids and most items bid on during an auction’s first day.

“We had high hopes going into the launch of Auction #222 based on just how loaded it was from top to bottom and in just about every category we offer,” Hake’s President Alex Winter said. “Key and high-end pieces abound in this sale. But one never knows how the bids are going to come in and/or when the bidders are going to get started. This time they did so early and often and the results speak for themselves.”

Hake’s auctions collate material for just about any collector, with political and historical memorabilia, plus pop culture categories like comics, Disney, toys, action figures, autographs, concert posters, and plenty more. There are over 2,400 lots in Auction #222, spread across 200 collecting categories.

Bidding is already heating up on exceptional items like the “Americanize America Vote for Cox and Roosevelt” jugate (lot 288), Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 7.5 with the first appearance of Spider-Man (lot 1348), Jack Kirby Incredible Hulk #3 original page art (lot 1470), and Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi 12-back double-telescoping action figure (lot 2088).

Other key lots to keep an eye on are the Stephen Douglas 1860 portrait flag Hake #3004 (lot 42), Homestead Grays of 1930s real photo postcard (lot 877), 1920 Holsum Bread Shoeless Joe Jackson PSA PR 1 (lot 884), John Byrne Fantastic Four #289 original comic cover art (lot 1480), Super Powers/Super Amigos Riddler rare carded figure (lot 1834), and Star Wars Luke Skywalker 12-back-C AFA 95 yellow hair action figure (lot 2089).

With such a successful first day, Auction #222 could be one of the best at Hake’s. “There are still three weeks of bidding to go until the closing days and we are excited to see where the final auction of our 50th anniversary goes,” Winter added.
