Danny Bulanadi, a longtime Marvel inker who had notable runs on Captain America and Fantastic Four, died on Thursday, November 3, 2022, of congestive heart failure. He was 76 years old.
Bulanadi was born in Manila, Philippines in 1946. He studied art in college and was working for GMS Komiks when he met Tony DeZuniga and became his assistant. While he was working on comics in the Philippines, he was introduced to editor Joe Orlando, which led to him working with DC in the late 1970s. During this period, he also designed the Canadian superheroes Captain Canada and Captain Newfoundland for comic strips.
In 1980 he started working for Marvel as a regular inker on Micronauts and on Daredevil. He inked Further Adventures of Indiana Jones of Steve Ditko’s art, then he worked on D.P. 7 and Quasar.
In the late ‘80s, he worked on Transformers comics, which led to animation work on the Transformers animated series. It was around this time that he started inking Captain America in issue 359 and he remained on the title until issue 443.
From there, he worked on West Coast Avengers, then he and writer Tom DeFalco were the creative team on Fantastic Four #356-411. Later in his career Bulanadi worked on Bible comic stories.
