Renowned fantasy artist Greg Hildebrandt will be showcasing his work in two gallery exhibitions in 2023.
Hildebrandt and his brother Tim are known for illustrating the first of a series of Lord of the Rings calendars and for creating a movie poster for Star Wars: A New Hope. He has painted covers for Star Wars comics, Deadpool, Secret Wars, Black Panther, and Thor. More recently he has been painting movie posters for classic films like King Kong.
First, his work will be showcased at the Rye Arts Center in their exhibit, Artists of the Night: Gothic Literature Scenes, Songs, and Stories. Starting on January 28, 2023, a variety of media inspired by gothic literature will be on display, including Hildebrandt’s paintings of classics like Dracula and Phantom of the Opera, alongside the work of influential artists like Charles Addams and Edward Gory. The Rye Arts Center Gallery is located at 51 Milton Road in Rye, New York.
Next, four new works from his personal art series, Kid Stuff, will be displayed at the 16th International ARC Salon Exhibition at Sotheby’s in New York City. The show will contain around 75 to 100 works from different artists and will run sometime during the summer of ’23.
Hildebrandt commented on the exhibits saying, “…Whether the work gets tucked away on a shelf or makes its way out into the public, I would still be doing it, but truth be told, it’s always better to be seen and wanted. It’s all one more opportunity to get it right. For that, I am grateful.”
