He has worked on Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, Showcase, and the Metal Men, as well as family-friendly titles like Scooby-Doo and the Dick Tracy comic strip. While he was at Heroes Convention, Staton took a break from meeting fans to chat with Scoop about meeting readers and attending conventions.

Scoop: How has the weekend been?
Joe Staton (JS): It’s been a real busy weekend, that’s what we’re looking for.

Scoop: What do fans want to talk about this weekend?
JS: Well, I retired this last year, so people are asking me how I’m holding up with retirement. I’m doing okay.

Scoop: Which characters are you getting the most requests for on sketches?
JS: A lot of the Huntress, one of the characters I co-created, a lot of different Green Lanterns, a lot of Power Girl this time – I didn’t create her, but I drew her quite a bit on the JSA, so she’s part of my staple of characters.

Scoop: What do you like about attending comic conventions?
JS: Well, I like meeting people who will tell me what I did in years past, because sometimes I’ve forgotten and they’ll remind me. It’s nice seeing people that remember what I did years ago and bring it back to mind.

Scoop: Have you been surprised by anything people bring up?
JS: Well, I do a lot of signings here, especially for Heroes Initiative, but people brought in several books that I don’t remember doing, but obviously I did. They slip my mind completely.

Scoop: How does Heroes Con compare to other shows?
JS: It is definitely the best. The best one in North America; I’m pretty sure about that.

Scoop: What other shows are you attending this summer?
JS: I will be at Baltimore Comic-Con and that’s my big one. I’m going to a show in Pennsylvania, a little show in Albany, basically the big show is Baltimore.
