Chicago Comicon founder Larry Charet is in need of financial assistance for medical bills and for his business. To help Charet, a GoFundMe page has been organized by Gary Colabuono, the longtime comic dealer, appraiser, and historian, as well as Charet’s former partner in the Chicago Comicon.

Charet is well known in the Chicago comics scene, dating back to 1972 when he opened Larry’s Comic Book Shop. Four years later, he co-founded the Chicago Comicon with Ross Kight and Joe Sarno. Charet co-owned the con through 1997, when he, Colabuono, and their partner Bob Weinberg sold it to Wizard World (it has since been sold to Fan Expo). Since then, he has always had a booth at the show as an independent dealer.

For the past three years, Charet has been afflicted by heart ailments and kidney problems, among other health related issues. Because he does not drive, Charet uses public transportation for his hospital visits, which can get expensive.

The GoFundMe page goal is also looking to fund his booth space for the next Fan Expo Chicago. The goal is to raise $5,000.
