Mark Morales has provided art for most major characters at DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, and Image. His art has been in Thor, Daredevil, Batman, X-Men, Avengers vs. X-Men, Spider-Man/Deadpool, Astonishing X-Men, and Star Wars: The High Republic. Morales was a guest at Baltimore Comic-Con, and he took a break from meeting fans to talk to Scoop about his work and the convention.

Scoop: Good morning, Mark, are you having a good show?
Mark Morales (MM): Doing great. Great show. Baltimore is one of my favorites.

Scoop: What do you like about Baltimore Comic-Con?
MM: It’s a comic book show. It’s not like a multimedia thing or whatever. It’s really based on comic books. So, it’s like an old school show, but the bigger venue.

Scoop: What does it mean to you to meet fans at cons?
MM: It’s great to meet the fans and to meet the other artists. I was a fan, everybody that’s here started as a fan. Getting to meet the people that buy your stuff and enjoy it as much as you do… they’re great to talk to.

Scoop: You’ve drawn some of the most fun characters at Marvel. Which ones stand out as your favorites?
MM: You can’t go wrong with Wolverine. Everybody loves Wolverine.

Scoop: Anything specific about the character that you enjoy?
MM: The design is really cool. I mean, the various designs are really cool. The physicality of the character, he’s short, but violent, this, that, and the other.

Scoop: What do you find more challenging, drawing characters in action or conveying the drama and emotion in a splash?
MM: The action because you have to really compose it to make it really stand out.

Scoop: Are there any characters you haven’t worked on yet that you would like to draw?
MM: I’ve been really lucky. I’ve worked on pretty much everything over the years so, I can’t say I missed any.

Scoop: It would have to be a deep cut.
MM: Yeah, really deep like Jack of Hearts or something deep.

Scoop: What are you currently working on?
MM: I’m working on Project Marvel, but I really can’t say anything. It comes out in March of next year.

Scoop: What other conventions will you be doing in the next couple of months.
MM: New York Comic Con.

Scoop: Thank you so much.
MM: Thank you.
