Gundam, the anime series about the space battles between large humanoid robots, is heading to Netflix for a live-action film. It will be Legendary’s first live-action movie based on the franchise.

Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct and produce and Runaways co-creator Brian K. Vaughn is writing the screenplay.

The series is set in the Universal Century when human population has overwhelmed the Earth, so some have created space colonies for new habitats. The scattering of humans in the space colonies and on Earth incites wars that are waged by using giant mobile robot suits.

Vogt-Roberts is also working on a movie based on the Metal Gear Solid video games with Oscar Isaac attached to star. Legendary and Netflix have also partnered on a Pacific Rim anime series and will work together on animated series for King Kong and Tomb Raider.
