The King of the Monsters is getting his own TV show! Godzilla from Legendary’s Monsterverse has been greenlit for a series on Apple TV+. The live-action show will be set after the events in the 2014 Godzilla film.

“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch,” the logline on Apple TV+ states.

The currently untitled show was created by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Daredevil), both of whom will act as executive producers. Black will also serve as showrunner.

Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will executive produce for Toho (owner of the Godzilla character). Legendary Television and Safehouse Pictures are also producing.

Starting with 2014’s Godzilla, Legendary’s Monsterverse is centered around humanity’s attempts to survive following the emergence of giant monster threats. After Godzilla stomped his way across the world, King Kong expressed dominance over his home in Kong: Skull Island (2017). The next installment was 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters in which Godzilla battled other giant titans like King Ghidorah. The latest installment, Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) was the massive battle between the two apex predators.

The series does not have a premiere date yet.
