2021 saw the launch of The Marvel Comics Library, an exclusive, long-term collaboration between Taschen and Marvel. 

The rarest classic comics, including Spider-Man, Avengers, and Fantastic Four are meticulously reproduced in their original glory, in extra-large format. The first book in the series, Spider-Man, is an XXL-sized collector’s dream, close in size to the original artworks, and features the first 21 stories of the world’s favorite web slinger from 1962-1964, including the covers and interior pages – ads and all. Rather than recolor the artwork (as has been done in previous decades’ reprints of classic comics), Taschen has attempted to create an ideal representation of these books as they were produced at the time of publication. The library offers collectors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lay their hands on the world’s most desirable comics. Each volume includes an essay by a comic book historian along with hundreds of photos and artifacts, including rare original comic book artwork. Three different paper stocks, including an uncoated and woodfree paper, were exclusively developed for this series to simulate the feel of the original comics.

The next book in the series is Golden Age Captain America, and we are reaching out to Scoop readers in search of collectors who might want to participate in this project and allow us to photograph their comics. The comics that are needed for this volume are Captain America Comics #1-12, and All-Winners #1-3. Taschen will travel to you to photograph the issues, and it will be your choice whether to remain anonymous or have your comics credited in the book.
