Netflix has released the debut trailer for Wednesday. Starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, Wednesday takes place at Nevermore Academy where she tries to master her growing psychic ability, stop a killing spree, and solve a 25-year-old mystery that involves her parents.
The trailer starts at Nancy Reagan High School where outcast Wednesday Addams exacts revenge against the water polo team for tormenting her brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). Then we meet the new Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán) who have enrolled Wednesday in a school more befitting her dark sensibilities. The second half of the trailer introduces Nevermore Academy and its residents with Wednesday’s voiceover warning that, “Little did I know I’d be stepping into a nightmare full of mystery, mayhem, and murder.”
The series was created by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough with Tim Burton serving as executive producer and director on four of the eight episodes. Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the ‘90s Addams Family movies, will appear in the series, though her role is being kept under wraps. Gwendoline Christie and Thora Birch are also starring in the series.
Wednesday does not have a release date, but is expected to start streaming on Netflix in 2022.
