Actor and stuntman Ted White, whose work ranged from John Wayne movies to playing Jason Voorhees, died on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was 96 years old.
White was a stuntman on multiple John Wayne movies, like Rio Bravo, The Horse Soldiers, The Alamo, and Hatari!. Several years later, he played hockey masked boogeyman Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
White was born Alex Bayouth on January 25, 1926, in Krebs, Oklahoma. Before pursuing his Hollywood career, White played football at the University of Oklahoma and served in the Marine Corps.
His first acting job came in 1949’s Sands of Iwo Jima, then he moved on to primarily working as a stunt man. White’s early stunt work included Creature from the Black Lagoon, Giant, Born Reckless, Exodus, The Misfits, and Planet of the Apes.
White did stunts in Soylent Green, Kojak, Rollerball, the 1976 King Kong, 1941, and Escape from New York. Some of his later sunt work included History of the World: Part I, Short Circuit, Ruthless People, Major League, Road House, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Wild Wild West, Gone in 60 Seconds, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and his last stunt work was in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
As an actor, White was in TV shows like Maverick, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Bonanza, Daniel Boone, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Rockford Files, and Knots Landing. He was also in TRON, T.J. Hooker, Romancing the Stone, Silverado, The Fall Guy, Magnum, P.I., The X-Files, and Double Take.
