Character actor and voice actor Michael Kopsa died on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from a brain tumor. He was 66 years old.
His ex-wife, actress Lucia Frangione, announced his passing on Twitter, “He was an incredible stage and screen actor, voice actor, carpenter, musician and painter. Most importantly, he was a loving and richly present father.”
Kopsa had over 225 acting credits to his name, including voicing Beast in X-Men: Evolution, playing Captain Windmark on Fringe, and as Ned Cecil in 2005 Fantastic Four movie.
He was born on January 22, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, studied acting at the Circle in the Square Theater School in New York, and got an arts and science degree at the University of Toronto. Kopsa’s professional acting debut was in 1979 for Mobile Suit Gundam as the English dub for Char Aznable. He went on to do voice work in animation and anime titles like Action Man, Dragon Ball Z, Inuyasha, Death Note, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Planet Hulk, and Ninjago.
Kopsa’s live-action debut was in 1985’s Timing. He appeared in The Commish, Highlander, The X-Files, and The Outer Limits. He was in 3000 Miles to Graceland, Stargate SG-1, Smallville, The Dead Zone, Watchmen, Apollo 18, Van Helsing, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
