The battle with evil exes continues in the new Scott Pilgrim anime series based on the graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski. Netflix has revealed that the anime will see the return of multiple cast members from the 2010 live-action film, Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

The returning cast includes Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter, and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau. The news came via a Netflix casting announcement video.

Additionally, the movie’s director Edgar Wright is serving as executive producer of the anime. Graphic novel creators O’Malley and Grabinski are also executive producing, as well as writing and showrunning the series. It will be animated by Science SARU, the Japanese studio behind Star Wars: Visions.

Originally published from 2004 to 2010, the black and white Scott Pilgrim graphic novels follow Scott, a garage band bass player, who falls madly for Ramona, the new girl in town. But before their budding relationship can really begin, he must defeat her Seven Evil Exes. The film version brought the graphic novels’ quirky, lighthearted tone to the screen, adding splashes of animated graphics to give it a unique look.

Scott Pilgrim The Anime does not currently have an official release date.
