At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, it was announced that The Walking Dead was finally bringing back fan-favorite characters Rick Grimes and Michonne for a limited series. Now, fans finally have a premiere date for the show that will see the separated couple fight their way back to each other.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (aka, the return of Rick and Michonne) will debut on AMC and AMC+ on February 25, 2024. AMC released a new teaser for the show with stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira offering their take on the series. Lincoln notes that people have asked where the characters have been and the show’s goal to answer that question. Gurira described how powerful the couple is and the strength of their love.

The last time Rick was seen on The Walking Dead, he was presumed dead after blowing up a bridge to stop walkers from killing his people. But then his unconscious body was retrieved by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and taken to the Civic Republic Military where he has been unable to escape since then. Meanwhile, Michonne discovered that he was likely still alive, and she left the flagship show to search for him.

The teaser also confirms that the Civic Republic Military leader Major General Beale (Terry O’Quinn) is back. The Ones Who Live will also feature the returns of Bailey (Andrew Bachelor) and Aiden (Brenda Wool) who were survivors that Michonne encountered on her search for Rick. Additional cast include Lesley-Ann Brandt and Matt Jeffries.

Scott M. Gimple, The Walking Dead universe’s CCO, is acting as showrunner and executive producer. Lincoln and Gurira are also executive producing, along with Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.
