The simmering resentment and threat of violence in the Targaryen family is boiling over in the first trailer for House of the Dragon season two.
When the Game of Thrones spinoff ended its first season, young Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grilhault) was killed by his uncle Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) during a frightfully unmatched dragon chase. Now, his mother Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) is ready to do whatever it takes to exact revenge on her half-brother and his family. The trailer hints at a major death, the concept of the dragonseeds, and teases the arrival of new characters.
The eight-episode second season will see the return of Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II, Steve Toussaint as Coryls Velaryon, Harry Collett as Jace Velaryon, Bethany Antonia as Baela Targaryen, and Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena Targaryen.
Season two is adding several new cast members to its large ensemble cast. Freddie Fox will play Ser Gwayne Hightower, brother to Queen Alicent; Simon Russell Beale has been cast as Ser Simon Strong, the Castellan of Harrenhal and Lord Larys Strong’s great uncle; Gayle Rankin will star as Harrenhal healer Alys Rivers; and Abubaker Salim will play the famous Velaryon Alyn of Hull.
House of the Dragon season two will arrive on Max in the summer of 2024.
