King Kong and Godzilla are back and this time they are joining forces. Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, sees the former foes back to take on a new threat.

The trailer opens with a voiceover by Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) stating that “For most of human civilization we believed that life could only exist on the surface of our planet. What else were we wrong about?” That’s when Kong breaks through the surface while sporting a giant metallic arm. Then we see a baby version of Kong, new landscapes reveal the presence of a giant threat, and a mysterious glowing pyramid. Godzilla emerges from the ice, sporting a pinkish-red hue to his atomic blast, and the two titans head for a fight with their unseen foe.

This is the fifth movie in Legendary’s Monsterverse, which began in 2014 with Godzilla, then King Kong was introduced in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. Godzilla faced other kaiju in Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019, then the two titans faced each other in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Monsterverse stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle are back for the sequel, joined by franchise newcomers Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, and Rachel House. Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard returned to helm the new movie.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire arrives in theaters on March 15, 2024.
