Paramount+ has begun production on the Michelle Yeoh-led Star Trek: Section 31 film. Yeoh returns to the role of Emperor Philippa Georgiou, which she originated on Star Trek: Discovery.

Georgiou joins a secret Starfleet division that protects the United Federation of Planets, while also facing the choices of her past. The prospect of the movie was teased in Star Trek: Discovery season one via a deleted scene that shows Georgiou being contacted by the intelligence organization on the Klingon homeworld.

“And we’re off to the races! Thrilled to report principal photography has started on Star Trek: Section 31,” executive producer Alex Kurtzman said. “We welcome our incredible cast of new characters as they join our beloved Michelle Yeoh on her next wild adventure across the ‘Trek’ universe.”

Star Trek: Section 31 will also star Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao.

Craig Sweeny (Medium) wrote the script and Olatunde Osunsanmi (Star Trek: Discovery) is directing, and both will serve as executive producers on Star Trek: Section 31. Executive producers also include Rod Rodenberry and Trevor Roth of Rodenberry Entertainment, and Alex Kurtzman and Aaron Baiers of Secret Hideout.
