A pair of MCU stars are working together in a new comic movie adaptation. Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson will star in Afterburn, based on the post-apocalyptic adventure comic of the same name.

Published by Red 5, Afterburn is set in the years after a massive solar flare destroyed the entire eastern hemisphere. It follows Jake, a man who has made a career out of finding valuable items in the aftermath, while also dodging the competition and locals who were mutated by the apocalyptic event.

Bautista will star in the movie as Jake, as he teams with freedom fighter Drea to find the Mona Lisa before a warlord finds it first. Jackson will play fellow freedom fighter Valentine.

The script is written by Matt Johnson (Into the Blue) with editing by Nimrod Antal (Control). J.J. Perry, who was a second unit director and stunt coordinator in the Fast & the Furious and John Wick franchises, will direct the film. It is set to begin principal photography in April 2024.

Bautista is producing through Dogbone Entertainment, and it is being produced by Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) and Toby Jaffe (Total Recall) for Original Film, and Steve Richards (The Matrix trilogy) for Endurance Media.

Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world building of Children of Men,” Jaffe said. “J.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces. Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making Afterburn with them both.”
