Nicolas Cage is playing Spider-Man Noir again, except this time he won’t just be voicing the character. Cage has signed on to play the character in the live-action series, Noir, at MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. The show will debut on MGM+’s linear channel then will launch on Prime Video.

This is the second time that Cage will play Spider-Man Noir; he voiced the character in the animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man Noir was created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and Carmine Di Giandomenico, as part of the Marvel Noir miniseries. Set during the Great Depression era, Spider-Man dons a costume based on his uncle’s World War I airman uniform, and takes on New York’s criminal underworld led by Norman Osborn.

The TV series features Spider-Man Noir as an aging, down and out private investigator who wrestles with his past life and his present attempts to be New York’s superhero. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot will act as co-showrunners, who developed the series with the Into the Spider-Verse team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. All five will be executive producers, along with Harry Bradbeer, who will direct the first two episodes.

“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers,” Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope said. “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

This is the second Sony-Marvel series greenlit at Amazon, following Silk: Spider Society from showrunner Angela Kang. Several other shows are in the works, but have not been announced yet.
