Actor Bill Cobbs, who starred in The Bodyguard, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He was 90 years old.

Over his 50 years in film and television, Cobbs built a large body of work with nearly 200 credits to his name. In The Bodyguard, he played Devaney, the manager to singer-actress Rachel Marron, played by Whitney Houston. He also had memorable roles in The Hudsucker Proxy as Moses the clock man and in Night at the Museum as an evening security guard protecting the exhibits that come to life.

Cobbs was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 16, 1934. He served as an Air Force radar technician and worked various other jobs before pursuing his acting career when he was in his mid-30s. His first TV credit was in the show Vegetable Soup, and his film debut was in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three in ’74.

His film work included The Hitter, Trading Places, The Cotton Club, The Color of Money, New Jack City, The People Under the Stairs, Demolition Man, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, That Thing You Do!, Ghosts of Mississippi, Air Bud, Hope Floats, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Enough, A Mighty Wind, and The Muppets.

Cobbs appeared in the shows Good Times, Sesame Street, he starred in Homeroom and The Gregory Hines Show, was in The Sopranos, My Wife and Kids, NYPD Blue, JAG, The Drew Carey Show, One Tree Hill, Go On, Agents of SHIELD, and his final role was in the miniseries Incandescent Love.
