Wynonna Earp is back! The cult favorite supernatural Western TV series based on the comic by Beau Smith returned to San Diego Comic-Con with a vengeance.
Showrunner Emily Andras, and stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dom Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, and Dani Kind reunited at Comic-Con for a panel on the special, Wynonna Earp: Vengeance. The 90-minute movie is coming courtesy of Tubi and arrives in the fall of 2024.
The trailer gets viewers reacquainted with Wynonna Earp (Scrofano) and Doc Holliday (Rozon) who literally rode off into the sunset when the original TV series ended. The heroes are called home by newly married Waverly Earp (Provost-Chalkley) and Nicole Haught (Barrell) when a dangerous new villain makes herself known.
It teases some throwbacks, including the fast-moving revenants, the tentacle goo, and what appear to be reapers. The trailer, which also features Greg Lawson as former sheriff Randy Nedley and Kind as rich girl turned vampire Mercedes, ends with a tongue in cheek joke about their predicament feeling like a reboot.
The panel opened with Andras announcing that she has many more stories to tell in addition to Vengeance. Scrofano told attendees that not only is the cast back, but many of the crew also returned for the movie. They also talked about the passion of the fandom and how fans, known as Earpers, had driven the project.
Vengeance will acknowledge the time away (the series ended in 2021) and the characters will have grown and settled into their lives following the original series’ conclusion. Andras teased that there are many Easter eggs in the movie, but that it was also written in a way that new viewers could enjoy it. She described the special as “…a little bit about growing up and what happens after happily ever after, and what success looks like.”
They also talked about what makes the series special with Andras noting that it’s a story of underdogs and that everybody is welcome, while Rozon pointed out the found family aspect of the show.
