The Walking Dead universe has been ever present at San Diego Comic-Con since the flagship show debuted in 2010. This year, the AMC rolled out new trailers for two of their spinoff shows starring fan-favorite characters from the original.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol will present the highly anticipated reunion of Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride). The trailer shows Daryl and Carol onscreen together for the first time since the original series ended in 2022. It starts with Daryl admitting, “I don’t know if this is the place where I’m supposed to be.” Then we see a determined Carol who is ready to jump in a plane and fly across the ocean to find her friend.
As she makes the dangerous journey to France, Daryl talks to Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) about returning to the US. The trailer features the Louvre in ruins, Daryl being held captive, and Carol being attacked by walkers in camouflage. Daryl takes out a group of soldiers, Carol starts questioning people for his location, and it ends with a brief shot of Carol finally finding him.
“They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet’s (Anne Charrier) movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France’s future,” per the synopsis.
Season two will also star Laika Blanc Francard, Anne Charrier, Romain Levi, and Eriq Ebouaney.
Reedus and McBride were at the panel with fellow cast member Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, showrunner David Zabel, and executive producer and director Greg Nicotero. Not only did they share the trailer for season two, Reedus announced that the show would get a third season that will be set in Spain. They will begin filming season three this fall in Madrid and other regions of Spain.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol premieres on AMC on September 29, 2024.
The first trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City season two opens with a voiceover from Dama (Lisa Emery) claiming that “The old world was rigged. Designed to rip us apart.” Cut to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), looking like his old Savior self, in a leather jacket and carrying a barbwire wrapped baseball bat.
Maggie (Lauren Cohan) acknowledges that she knows what it means to return to Manhattan, and when Armstrong (Gaius Charles) asks why she wants to save Negan, she tells him that “It’s different now.” Then Maggie sees Negan looking the way he did when he killed Glenn, and the teaser ends with the two in a tense faceoff.
“In the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined,” the official synopsis reads.
New cast members were announced during the panel, including Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black), Jake Weary (Animal Kingdom), Keir Gilchrist (Love & Death), and Pooya Mohseni (Madam Secretary). Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) was previously added to season two.
The second season will also star Ċ½eljko Ivanek, Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon, and Logan Kim. Eli Jorné is back as showrunner and executive producer, along with The Walking Dead Universe CCO Scott M. Gimple, Cohan, Morgan, Brian Bockrath, Michael Satrazemis, and Colin Walsh.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season two premieres on AMC sometime in 2025.
