The creepy, sinister smiling curse is moving on to someone famous in Smile 2. Paramount Pictures released a new trailer for the sequel, following a pop singer on her world tour.
The trailer begins when pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) visits a friend and witnesses the disturbing moment that the smile curse causes him to commit suicide. Skye embarks on her world tour, doing talk show appearances and meeting fans, all the while she keeps seeing the sinister smile. When she meets someone who understands what is happening to her, Skye contemplates taking extreme measures to survive the curse.
It also features a cameo by Drew Barrymore, the star of films like Firestarter and Scream, returning to the horror genre. Barrymore will play herself, hosting Skye on her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.
Smile writer-director Parker Finn returned to write and helm the sequel and Kyle Gallner is back to star in the new movie. It also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, and Dylan Gelula.
The first Smile had a clever marketing campaign in which people were planted at crowded events to be captured on camera giving the unsettlingly large smile seen in the movie. For the sequel, the marketing department created social media pages for the fictitious pop star Skye Riley, and she has her own website that features music recorded by Scott.
Smile 2 hits theaters on October 18, 2024.
