Paramount Home Entertainment is celebrating Star Trek Day on September 8, 2024, by releasing a 45th anniversary limited edition 4K Blu-ray Steelbook of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The first Star Trek movie debuted in 1979, ten years after the original TV series concluded its three-season run. The movie reintroduces the crew when a formidable new alien threat called V’Ger cuts a swath of destruction on its way to Earth. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) leads the team of Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Hikaru Sulu (George Takei), Montgomery Scott (James Doohan), and Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) to uncover V’Ger’s origins and save the Earth.

The Star Trek: The Motion Picture 4K Blu-ray Steelbook contains the original theatrical cut and a bonus remastered version. It also comes with a booklet that revisits the original marketing materials and behind the scenes images of the film. It’s currently available for preorder and will be released on November 19, 2024.

Star Trek movies have received multiple 4K releases in recent years. One is the Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition 4K Ultra HD, featuring Dolby Vision and HDR-10, Dolby Atmos, two audio commentary tracks, a text commentary, several featurettes, deleted scenes, legacy bonus content, and more. The Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition – The Complete Adventure 4K Ultra HD is a limited edition with the previously mentioned content and the first ever widescreen presentation of the special longer version of the movie that was created for TV in 1983.

Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture Collection is a 15-disc set with all six original movies in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and HDR-10. This release includes the standard version of all six films and the director’s cuts of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
