Beetlejuice has finally returned in the long awaited sequel featuring the reunion of Tim Burton with stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrived in theaters on September 6, 2024, earning a domestic opening weekend of $110 million. It added another $35 million internationally for a global total of $145 million, making it the No. 1 movie of the weekend.

The movie had the third highest opening weekend of 2024, behind Deadpool & Wolverine’s staggering $444 million, and Inside Out 2, which had a $155 million opening. It passed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ opening weekend of $131 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice earned the second biggest opening for September, following 2017’s It which totaled $123 million in its first weekend. It beat 2019’s It Chapter Two that saw $91.1 million when it opened.

The story begins when Lydia (Ryder), Delia (O’Hara), and Lydia’s daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) return to the old family home after a family tragedy. When Astrid finds the town model where Beetlejuice made his home, Lydia warns her of the mischievous bio-exorcist. Once Astrid is taken to the afterlife, Lydia and Beetlejuice join forces to save her. The movie also stars Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.
