Several states are still working on recovery and relief efforts from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton is expected to cause similar damage to Florida. The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation is accepting donations to help the hundreds of bookstores and comic shops and thousands of store employees impacted by the two hurricanes. Sourcebooks has pledged to match all gifts, regardless of size, up to $10,000.

According to Binc, as of Monday, October 7, 2024, they had already received 34 calls from 11 stores and 23 individuals seeking help.

“We hear from more book and comic people every day, and we know from experience that the need will continue to grow as the waters recede, power and cell phone signals return, damage can be assessed, and the cleanup begins. We are especially grateful for the support of our friends at Sourcebooks as we watch a second hurricane take aim at Florida,” Binc Executive Director Pam French said.

Binc helps book and comic store employees and owners when they experience emergency financial, medical, and mental health hardships. They have helped stores recover from hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Binc for their crucial work,” Sourcebooks publisher and CEO Dominique Raccah said. “Sourcebooks is proud to uplift our bookselling partners in any way we can, and we hope our support helps local booksellers and their families in this time of great need for so many communities.”

Donations can be made on Binc’s website.
